Position Overview
The Reliability Specialist – Level IV is a senior-level technical leader responsible for providing expert diagnostics, guiding complex reliability initiatives, and delivering high-impact solutions across client organizations. This role serves as a subject matter expert (SME) in predictive maintenance (PdM) technologies and reliability practices, applying deep industry knowledge to solve critical equipment and system challenges.
The Level IV Specialist operates with a high degree of autonomy, leads technical direction on projects, and plays a key role in mentoring team members while strengthening client relationships. This position contributes to both operational excellence and business growth through technical leadership and trusted advisory support.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead advanced predictive maintenance (PdM) diagnostics and complex failure investigations across multiple technologies
- Serve as the primary technical authority on assigned projects and client engagements
- Analyze complex equipment and system issues to determine root causes and long-term reliability solutions
- Develop and present high-level technical reports, including risk assessments and strategic recommendations
- Interface with client leadership, engineering, and maintenance teams to drive reliability improvements
- Provide technical oversight and guidance to Level I–III specialists
- Mentor and develop team members, supporting technical growth and certification progression
- Support the design, implementation, and optimization of client reliability programs and asset management strategies
- Standardize methodologies, reporting practices, and best-in-class PdM processes across projects
- Support business development efforts by providing technical expertise in proposals, client meetings, and solution development
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, industry regulations, and client requirements
- Travel to client sites as needed
- Maintain a high level of professionalism and act in the best interest of the client
Roles and Responsibilities Infrared (Level III Thermographer)
- Program Management: Designing predictive maintenance practices, calculating ROI, and establishing inspection frequencies
- Compliance: Ensuring company procedures align with guidelines from bodies like the American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) or the Infraspection Institute
- Advanced Theory: Mastering complex heat transfer principles, root-cause failure analysis, and emissivity severity criteria
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in industrial maintenance, reliability, or PdM
- Extensive background in mechanical and/or electrical systems
- Demonstrated expertise across multiple PdM technologies
- Proven ability to lead complex diagnostics and reliability initiatives
- Experience working directly with clients in a technical advisory capacity
Skills & Knowledge
- Expert-level proficiency in PdM diagnostics and failure analysis
- Deep understanding of reliability engineering principles and maintenance strategies
- Strong leadership, mentoring, and team development capabilities
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (advanced Excel skills preferred for data analysis and trending)
- Strong knowledge of CMMS/EAM systems and reliability data utilization
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, including executive-level interactions
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a dynamic environment
Certifications (Expected / Preferred)
- Strongly Preferred:
- Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP)
- Certified Reliability Leader (CRL)
- IR Level III certification
- Preferred:
- Advanced PdM certifications across multiple technologies (Infrared Level II+, Vibration, Ultrasound, Oil Analysis)
- Continued professional development and certification advancement expected
Physical & Work Requirements
- Ability to walk, climb, and work in industrial environments
- Willingness to travel regularly and work occasional off-hours or weekends
