Hood Lumber, a division of Hood Industries, Inc. is seeking a Maintenance Manager for our Bogalusa, LA facility. The mill has approximately 130 employees. This position is responsible for the management and coordination of all mechanical and electrical work in the facility. It includes the maintenance, repair, and update of all equipment, machinery, structures and utilities for the mill. They would also be responsible for maintaining preventive maintenance plans and procedures for responding to equipment or plant operating problems. Additionally, experience in selecting and developing maintenance personnel with assurances the maintenance department employees are appropriately skilled and trained.
Position Description:
- Initiates, implements, and manages the plant maintenance program based on best practices in the lumber industry, with an emphasis on planning/scheduling and preventive/predictive maintenance.
- Monitors the use and inventories of spare parts, maintenance supplies, and equipment and initiates reordering when necessary.
- Develops and monitors maintenance budget. Maintain required budget, personnel, safety, equipment maintenance and environmental records.
- Establishes and maintains a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) for tracking work orders, spare parts, and maintenance history of plant equipment.
- Prepares reports, analyzes data, and makes recommendations for improving plant operations and solving maintenance-related problems.
- Facilitates the development and training of employees including coaching and mentoring.
- Ensures that all trade technicians are adequately trained, equipped, and motivated so that the maintenance program can be accomplished in a safe, timely, and cost-effective manner.
- Communicates regularly with all maintenance technicians, both individually and as a group, to ensure good two-way communication concerning maintenance issues.
- Assists with hiring of all maintenance personnel.
- Conducts performance reviews and monitors/signs off on Millwright/Mechanic and Electrical Task Lists to determine competency, knowledge, and contribution of the maintenance technicians.
- Maintains and updates operating and training manuals for the maintenance department.
- Reviews the operation of plant equipment and systems constantly, to minimize unplanned downtime, anticipate and solve problems in a timely manner, and to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Initiates and implements non-capital projects that improve efficiency and/or reduce operating costs while working closely with Corporate Engineering on capital projects.
- Tracks, analyzes and improves key maintenance parameters such as maintenance cost, PM compliance, schedule compliance, etc.
- Maintains safety, health, and environmental policies and procedures. Responds to repair and modification requests from the Safety Committee and/or HR/Safety Managers.
- Directs, maintains, and enforces the safety program for the maintenance department; reviews safety records to uphold standards of maximum safety for all maintenance technicians.
- May also have additional responsibilities related to the operations of the plant, as assigned.
- Must be willing to work flexible work schedules as needed, to include days, nights and weekends.

Required skills/experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of plant maintenance experience with a strong background in mechanical and hydraulic systems.
- Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience in plant maintenance, with exposure to computerized control systems, maintenance planning, training and budgeting.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or related discipline preferred, but not required.
